Zacharia’s walk of hope

ONE of the 'Lost Boys' of South Sudan will arrive in Coffs Harbour tomorrow afternoon as part of yet another marathon walk.

As a child Zacharia Maciek was separated from his family and spent years walking with thousands of other orphans through Sudan and Ethiopia to avoid northern militia.

He finally made it to a refugee camp in Kenya where he lived for 11 years before finding a new home in Australia.

On June 16 Zacharia set out on foot yet again aiming to use his 1000km Hope Road walk from Tweed Heads to Sydney to raise money to build a primary school in his home village of Abyei Ajok to cater for girls and seriously disadvantaged children.

Zacharia will be welcomed to Coffs Harbour at 4pm on Friday by Coffs Harbour City Council Mayor, Cr Denise Knight, at the Coffs Harbour Neighbourhood Centre where he will talk about his life and his dreams for South Sudan
