Youth in custody after alleged home invasion

MIDNIGHT: POLICE have charged a 14 year-old following an aggravated break and enter in Bowraville.

About 8.20am on Monday, two occupants aged 75 and 84 where in their Carbin St home when they were allegedly confronted by a 14-year-old boy armed with a meat cleaver and a tyre lever.

It's alleged he demanded money from the couple before fleeing the premises empty handed.

The man and woman were not hurt.

Police were contacted and an investigation was commenced by police from Mid North Coast Command.

As a result of their investigations, officers attended a home in Bowraville yesterday where the youth was arrested.

He was taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent, and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The young person has been refused bail and will appear in Kempsey Children's Court on Tuesday.

10.40AM: POLICE have taken a youth into custody following a reported home invasion in Bowraville this morning.

A description of the teenager was circulated to all available patrol cars in the area after officers engaged a foot pursuit with the teenager this morning.

Residents in the town reported that officers were searching the back yards of nearby homes around Carbin and High Sts.

Police confirmed a suspect was taken into custody around 10.30am.

More details will be released later today.
