Youth given a choice

BEACH parties and alcohol-related crime are in the sights of Coffs/Clarence police during the summer.

To address increasing concerns over alcohol-related crime involving young people, police will continue to conduct Your Choice education nights.

Under Your Choice, if a person under 18 is detected in possession of or drinking alcohol in public, or they're in a licensed premises unlawfully, they have the choice of paying a fine or attending an education session.

If the young person fails to attend the session, a fine will be issued for the original offence.

These sessions cover drug and alcohol issues, beach parties, crime and its cost to the community, and safe party tips.

Police are appealing for any information on adults who supply alcohol to people under 18.
