Young man killed, four others injured in Banora Point crash
Update: 11am Monday
TRIBUTES have flowed in for Tweed Heads man Jake Atkinson, who was killed in a tragic car rollover on Sunday morning.
Mr Atkinson, who turned 20 just last month, reportedly died at the scene.
In the day since the crash, countless people have posted on Mr Atkinson's personal Facebook page, as well as that of Tweed-Byron Police to express their condolences.
"R.I.P Jake, thoughts are with your family mate," said Josh Kinneally.
"To one of the boys, a best mate, a young lad with such a strong passion for cars, you will be greatly missed by all of us," said Robbie Smith.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
The death marks Tweed's second road death this year, after a 27-year-old Banora Point man was hit by a car and killed on the Tugun Bypass in February.
Initial report: 8.15am Sunday
A MAN in his 20s has been killed and four others injured in a single-vehicle crash at Banora Point.
Police said the man was a passenger in a Toyota Hilux that ran off Terranora Road about 1.30am this morning and rolled onto its roof.
The young man, who was believed to have been sitting in the back of the vehicle, died at the scene.
The four other people in the Hilux, all men aged in their 20s, suffered minor injuries and were taken to The Tweed Hospital for treatment.
All five were believed to be from around Tweed Heads.
Crash investigation officers spent the morning at the scene combing the scene for clues as to why the crash happened, closing the road to all traffic for more than six hours.
They are now appealing to the community for help with the investigation.
Anyone who saw the crash or saw the Hilux shortly before the crash is asked to contact Tweed Heads Police Station on 07 5536 0999.
