Driver in court after fatal crash

A YOUNG driver is before the courts accused of causing a fatal accident in Dorrigo, which claimed the life of a 31-year-old local woman.

Daniel Wayne Madden, 23, has pleaded guilty to driving under the influence after his Nissan Skyline crashed into a Hyundai Excel on Saturday, May 15.

The horror crash happened in Cudgery Street about 11.50pm, near the Dorrigo Heritage Hotel Motel, where friends and family of the deceased were socialising.

Police allege the woman was parking her car when Madden’s Skyline crashed into the rear of the stationary Excel.

The court has heard Madden was also injured in the crash and hospitalised with chest injuries.

Witnesses told police his vehicle was seen doing burn-outs in the town moments before the accident.

Reappearing in court this week, Madden is charged with aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death with a prescribed alcohol content.

He is due to reappear for a sentencing hearing next month.
