Five sex questions you've always wanted answered

GABRIELLE Morrissey says as a sex expert, she gets asked lots of questions - online, in person, at the shops, at parties - absolutely anywhere and everywhere.

These are regular queries people have.

How often is 'normal'?

There is no true answer. In sexual health, we don't talk about what is "normal" because who defines that? What might be normal to one person, might not feel right for another. Instead, we refer to healthy sex.

If you are happy with your sex life, not harming yourself or others, and satisfied with the amount of sex you're having, then you have a healthy sex life.

Does size matter?

While more men than women ask this question, both are curious about the scientific answer. Based on sexual physiological knowledge, the answer is no, size does not matter.

The most sexually stimulating spot on a woman is her clitoris - the glans has more 8000 nerve endings alone, double that of the penis! The area is external and should not be ignored.

However the full structure of the clitoris also extend inwards, but is stimulated in the outer third of the vagina, so penile length really plays no factor in her pleasure.

How can I increase my libido?

If you're experiencing low libido, the first step is to work out the cause.

There can be many reasons for this, including lifestyle, stress, fatigue, illness, emotional upset, financial worry, relationship problems, hormones, painful sex, previous negative sexual experiences - the list goes on.

Don't reach for a pill until you know what the cause is.

How can we make sex last longer?

Given the average experience of sexual intercoure is 10 minutes, the goal of making sex last longer usually lies in making foreplay last longer.

As a couple engaged in physical and emotional intimacy, try to spend at least 30 minutes on foreplay.

Can a relationship survive infidelity?

Some will and some won't and that depends on the work that is put in by both partners and how badly the trust has been broken.

Honesty and a sincere desire to place the relationship first and foremost are two of the most important ingredients to surviving infidelity.

If both partners are committed to rebuilding their relationship, then a relationship can not only survive but potentially flourish.

Counselling is almost always a must.
