You ‘Can Too’ at the running festival

COFFS Coast residents are being encouraged to register for team ‘Can Too’s 10km run training program starting on Wednesday, June 29, with funds raised by participants going back to Cancer Council NSW for cancer research projects.

This 10 week program will see participants train in Coffs Harbour at Fitzroy Oval twice a week ahead of the Coffs Harbour Running Festival to be held in Coffs Harbour on Sunday, September 4.

Local coach Glen Barnett of Coffs Coast Health Club will lead participants through weekday sessions focusing on running form, while Saturdays will feature a long run where the distance increases as the program progresses.

In return, participants commit to raising $1000 which will go towards cancer research projects run by Cancer Council NSW.

Pippa Tabone from Cancer Council NSW’s Mid North Coast office said the state-wide partnership with Can Too, now into its second year, is a natural fit as both organisations have a strong mission, research and fundraising focus.

“Over the last 10 years Can Too has raised $16 million for cancer research and Cancer Council NSW has invested over $130 million into research through the support of communities like Coffs Coast and people who commit their time to fundraise through events like Can Too’s training programs,” Pippa said.

“This partnership shows that we value collaboration and the importance of working together to beat cancer, not only across metropolitan areas of NSW, but also regionally.”

Can Too founder and director, Annie Crawford AM, said anyone on the Coffs Coast can join the program regardless of their level of fitness or experience.

“This program training for the Coffs Harbour 10km is professionally structured in a team environment with motivational coaches to ensure everyone can achieve their personal goals.

“We have many Can Tooers who return to the program time and time again as they develop new friends, share experiences and have fun while raising money to beat cancer.”

Participants are provided weekly fundraising advice as a part of their registration and will also have a dedicated fundraising mentor throughout the program.

Coffs Coast residents wishing to register for Can Too’s Coffs Harbour Running Festival 10km training program starting on Wednesday, June 27, can visit www.cantoo.org.au/coffs or call 9334 1755.
