A YOUNG woman driver died in a single-vehicle car crash near Macksville on Saturday night.

A passer-by contacted police after finding a small Daewoo Matiz hatchback with Queensland number plates crashed on the side of Rodeo Drive at Tewinga about 11.30pm on Saturday.

Police and emergency services attended but the driver, a woman believed to be in her late teens or early 20s, died at the scene. She was the only occupant of the car.

Police said it appeared that the car was being driven east along Rodeo Drive when it attempted to round a sweeping bend.

They said it appeared the car crossed to the wrong side of the road before leaving the roadway and rolling.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Macksville Police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
