Yacht rescued off Urunga

A MAN and a woman needed a helping hand from Coffs Harbour water police yesterday when their yacht ran into trouble off Urunga.

The 12-metre yacht Amante was to have stopped in at Coffs Harbour en-route from Crowdy Head to Queensland, but rough weather and strong northerly winds on Sunday night hampered progress.

Their predicament worsened when they ran out of fuel as they motored up the coast, and attempts to sail for it proved fruitless. The woman also became severely seasick.

They contacted Coffs Harbour Coastal Patrol about 9am yesterday when they were three nautical miles off Urunga. Water police swung into action and towed them to the Coffs Harbour marina wharf.
