World Vision says Ebola crisis a 'profound failure'

THE chairman of a civil society forum at the G20 leaders summit has labelled the Ebola crisis a "profound government and market failure".

World Vision Australia chief executive Tim Costello, who is leading the C20 group dedicated to giving civil society organisations a voice at G20, said Ebola must be discussed.

"Why wasn't there research into Ebola? Because we said it only breaks out in Africa and it's patchy and they don't have a big market because they're poor," he said.

"That's why we don't have a vaccine ... because it didn't affect us. Suddenly we said Ebola's reaching us and we're scrambling.

"The G20 must actually have fairness for people who are the poorest in all G20 countries and that's our test."
