World Hepatitis Day events begin today

HEPATITIS B and C are the most common cause of liver cancer, and affect over half a million Australians.

World Hepatitis Day, 28 July, is the biggest annual event for hepatitis awareness and organisations across Queensland are holding a range of free community events.

Events will include free barbecues and healthy lunches, information days with quizzes and prizes, and sports and art events.

Kalwun Health Service is holding a community event at Coolangatta on Tuesday 8 July, with information about viral hepatitis, and free hepatitis and liver health checks. Please call Dane on (07) 5526 1112 for more information.

Queensland Injectors Health Network is holding a basketball day on Tuesday 15 July at Burleigh Heads. There will be giveaways, face painting, and referrals for on-site hepatitis testing and vaccinations. Please call Tegan on (07) 5520 7900 for more details.

More World Hepatitis Day activities are planned for around the Gold Coast and the state. You can see details of events in your area at loveyourliver.com.au

"We're really pleased to be supporting awareness events for the community in so many areas," said Clint Ferndale, CEO of Hepatitis Queensland.

For any questions about hepatitis, contact Hepatitis Queensland on 1300 HEP ABC (1300 437 222) or at www.hepqld.com. Hepatitis Queensland is a state-wide community organisation, providing free information and support, a free and confidential counselling service, and professional training and education.
