Woopi team competing at Asia Pacific Rally Champs
THE BP Woolgoolga Service Centre/Subway Rally Team will take on the very best drivers in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship this weekend on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
Local driver Mark Beard will be the only non-turbo charged car in the field and understands it will be an uphill battle keeping up with the "big boys".
"For me, (the draw is) to be on the centre stage with the big boys in the Asia Pacific, and ready for Rally Australia here in Coffs Harbour, where we will be with the WRC crews and competing with them instead of the national championship," Beard said.
Beard said the Asia Pacific Rally Championship is classified as equal pace to the world rally, with the front two factory Skoda rallycars built to world rally standards and driven by international drivers.
"Nathan Quinn and I will be the only Australians contesting the event so to have all the local Australian supporters behind us will be fantastic."
Beard left Woolgoolga yesterday to complete recce today, with the rally beginning with the street parade in Maroochydore tomorrow.
The Woolgoolga crew is hoping for a top eight finish, but said they would be over the moon to finish in top five.
"It's a tough, rough event. Reliability is the key.
"My Woolgoolga technicians that work on my car are equal if not better than to any of the world guys and I'm confident we will go well and putting Woolgoolga on the international map.
"It's always a fun time listening to the commentators try to pronounce Woolgoolga - I usually give them two or three attempts in interviews before helping out."
