AN ELDERLY woman has been taken the Coffs Harbour Base Hospital for assessment after she crashed her vehicle into the Department of Housing building on Moonee St this afternoon.

This saw the vehicle career over the kerb, travel over a foopath, plough through a garden bed and crash into the brick building.

A pedestrian Jason Farr, witnessed the crash.

"I was just walking past, and it looked like the woman stepped on the accelerator while still in drive when she was trying to park," he said.

The woman was assessed by paramedics at the scene and was able to walk away from the accident.
