Woman killed in highway crash

A WOMAN has been killed and two others injured in a head-on collision on the Pacific Highway at Clybucca just north of Kempsey this evening.

About 5.30pm, emergency services were called the Pacific Highway approximately 100m south of the Clybucca Memorial turnoff following a head-on collision.

It is believed a blue Mitsubishi Mirage was travelling north and a Grey Holden Commodore Station wagon travelling south when they collided on a sweeping bend.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 23-year-old woman from Shepparton in Victoria, died at the scene.

An elderly man and woman who were travelling in the Holden sustained chest and abdominal injuries.

They were taken by ambulance to Port Macquarie Hospital where they are believed to be in a serious but stable condition.

The highway was closed for nearly three hours while police conducted examinations of the scene and cleared the roadway.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are continuing, with police preparing a report for the  coroner.

This latest fatal crash brings the state’s holiday road toll to 10.
