A WOMAN suffered a suspected broken leg after she was struck by a car in Coffs Harbour. 

The woman was bowled over as she crossed the southbound lanes of the Pacific Highway on Sunday, just after 8pm.

The accident happened between the Coffs Harbour Visitor Information Centre and the Coast Hotel.

Police were told by witnesses the 51-year-old was struck by a passing dark coloured vehicle.

The woman hit the roadway heavily.

She was treated by the scene for leg injuries and taken to the Coffs Harbour Base Hospital in a stable condition, an ambulance spokeswoman said.

Police say the accident remains under investigation.   

The south bound lanes of the highway were blocked for around half an hour and traffic was diverted around the scene via Market and Little Sts.
