AN ELDERLY woman has died after being hit by a car at Banora Point, near Tweed Heads, last night.

NSW Police said in a statement just before 9.30pm emergency services responded to reports a woman had been hit by a car at the car park of Club Banora in Leisure Dr.

Police believe the 79-year-old woman was standing in the car park and was seen to fall over before the car hit her.

She was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital, but died a short time later.

The driver of the car - a 54-year-old woman - and her male passenger were uninjured, but the woman was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
