Woman denied parole for accidentally killing partner
A WOMAN who is behind bars for accidentally stabbing her partner in the leg and killing him has lost her case for parole.
Nicola Maria Baillie, who has lived in Hervey Bay and the Sunshine Coast, took the Queensland Parole Board to court after it refused to release her on parole last year.
She was eligible for parole in December 2014.
But Supreme Court Justice James Douglas this morning said the board made the right decision in refusing her parole.
In his judgment, Justice Douglas said the board refused Baillie's parole because it was concerned she posed an unacceptable risk to the community.
"When it took into account also the nature of her convictions and the factors contributing to her offending behaviour, which included abuse of prescription drugs and alcohol, there is no doubt in my mind that the Board was justified in reaching the conclusion it did that the applicant remained an unacceptable risk to the community at that stage," Justice Douglas said.
