Woman charged over baby's abduction

A GRAFTON woman, 28, has been charged over the abduction of a baby girl at Armidale.

The woman picked up a friend and her six-month-old child from their home in Morson Street, Armidale, on Sunday afternoon and drove them to an aquatic centre, police said.

The woman allegedly took the child from the car and walked with the mother to the pool entrance before telling her she had to briefly return to the car. She allegedly drove away with the child.

The car was spotted by police about 6.30pm at Tyringham, near Dorrigo, and pulled over.

The woman was refused bail to appear at Armidale Local Court yesterday.
