Winx impresses in training ahead of shot at win No.20

CHAMPIONS Winx and Chautauqua completed strong solo track gallops on Thursday morning in preparation for big-race assignments at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Mighty mare Winx was in cruise control as she worked wide out on the Rosehill course proper with regular jockey Hugh Bowman in the saddle in preparation for her attempt at a 20th consecutive win in Saturday's Group 1 $500,000 George Main Stakes (1600m).

"She is very strong, very healthy and very well," enthused Bowman about the world's best racehorse on turf.

Trainer Chris Waller said his only concern was that Winx may have gone too quick in the gallop.

"But Hugh got it right again - that was perfect work," Waller said. "I'm more confident with Winx going third-up into the George Main over the Randwick mile than I was second-up into the Chelmsford Stakes."

Chautauqua, the world's highest-rated sprinter, galloped earlier than Winx but also impressed as he sprinted strongly over the final 200m of his workout.

The champion grey is due to resume in the Group 2 $200,000 The Shorts (1100m) on Saturday.

Team Hawkes is preparing Chautauqua for the $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick on October 14.
