Wimbledon: Federer sets up Raonic grudge match

ROGER Federer will seek to avenge Wimbledon semi-final defeat to Milos Raonic when he faces the lethal Canadian tomorrow night.

Raonic last season ended Federer's quest for an eighth All England Club crown, after the Swiss suffered a season-ending knee injury in the semi-finals.

Raonic scrambled into the last eight with an iron-willed 4-6 7-5 4-6 7-5 6-1 over Alexander Zverev, clubbing 23 aces and 61 winners.

Federer schooled Bulgarian Grigo Dimitrov 6-4 6-2 6-4, declaring he is playing much freer at Wimbledon this year.

"The good thing is I'm not trying to heal something like last year's knee," he said.

"I'm just so happy to be in the quarters. The next match will be tough and hopefully I'll be ready for Wednesday."

The Swiss will tackle

Federer's victory over Dimitrov triggered another shower of records for Federer.

He has now reached 15 Wimbledon quarter-finals, one more than Jimmy Connors and his 50th overall at the majors, nine more than Connors.

Wimbledon is also now Federer's most productive hunting ground, where his tally is now 87-11 - superior to his 87-13 haul at the Australian Open.

And at 35 years and 342 days, Federer is the second oldest man in the Open era to reach the last eight here behind Ken Rosewall, who was 39 in 1974.

Tomas Berdych prevailed in a 6-3 6-7 (1-7) 6-3 3-6 6-3 dogfight with Austrian eighth Dominic Thiem.
