Wide Bay Burnett Gem Clubs' second annual market

A GROUP of five lapidary clubs will fossick together to hold the Wide Bay Burnett Gem Clubs second annual Gem, Craft and Treasure Market.

Members of the clubs from Bundaberg, Gympie, Maryborough, Hervey Bay and Nambour will hold the market at Tinana State School in Maryborough.

WBBGCA secretary/ treasurer Trish Flynn said that Maryborough didn't have a gem market.

Trish said had been a member for more than 20 years, was president of the Bundaberg Club and has been association secretary/ treasurer for 12 years.

"My husband John and I joined the Bundaberg club because we had a love of fossicking," she said.

"Members of all our clubs go fossicking and find rough rocks and stones, then come back to the clubhouses to give them a clean and polish.

"We are making jewellery from the beginning rough rock to the finished polished piece."

The gemstone lover said it was quite an interesting hobby.

"It is something for the whole family and it doesn't have to be expensive."

There will be lots of gems, crystals and jewellery at the Tinana market.

Demonstrations of how to cut and polish will be held along with fossicking from a bucket where you get to keep your findings.

A sausage sizzle and coffee van will be on site with more than 20 local market vendors.

The Wide Bay Burnett Gem Clubs second annual Gem, Craft and Treasure Market will be held at Tinana State Primary School, 239 Gympie Rd, Maryborough on Saturday, September 17 from 8.30am-3.30pm. Entry is free.

Stall holder enquiries can phone Trish Flynn on 0409 777 006.
