Wickets tumble at John Blanck Oval
CRICKET: It's a scorching hot day but it seems it's not a great day to be a Scorcher.
The Sunshine Coast Scorchers are hanging on for dear life at John Blanck Oval, Buderim, in its quest to chase down Valley's 298 set last weekend.
After 51 overs in their first innings, the Scorchers are battling at 6/103, largely thanks to four wickets from Valley bowler Andrew Gode.
He claimed night-watchman Wade Johnston for 14, before taking the scalp of Scorchers wicket-keeper John Pechey for nought and Kaden Dickfos for 7 runs off 67 balls.
Blake Maher is offering some spirited resistance and is 51 not-out from 115 deliveries and occupies the crease with Joash Mathys (6 not-out).
Valley bowler Chris Knight claimed the prized scalp of opening batsman Nick Selman, who is due to return to English County Cricket in March, for 12 runs.
Knight also claimed the wicket of Alecz Day - who had been in scintillating form with bat and ball leading into Christmas - with help from wicket-keeper Lachlan Pfeffer, who has gone on to take four catches today.
More to come.
