Westfields boss Frank Lowy has surgery after football fall

AUSTRALIAN football chief and businessman Frank Lowy has undergone surgery to correct a complication most likely from his fall during the presentation at the A-League Grand Final in May.

Mr Lowy fell from the presentation stage during the trophy ceremony after Melbourne Victory's title win over Sydney FC.

He fell off the dais onto the pitch, landing initially on his head.

The procedure was performed in Europe where he is holidaying, a statement from Westfield Corporation said on Tuesday.

"He is now out of hospital and he is expected to make a full and rapid recovery.

"A few days prior to the surgery, Mr Lowy began to feel unwell and an examination revealed that he had a subdural haematoma which is not uncommon following trauma to the head.

"Mr Lowy is now resting comfortably and following a short convalescence will return to Australia.

Mr Lowy AC is Chairman of Westfield Corporation, Scentre Group, Football Federation of Australia and the Lowy Institute for International Policy.
