Queensland and NSW Country crowned national champs

IN A tightly contested title race on the final day of the Westfield National Youth Championships for Girls, Queensland claimed the title of 13 Years national champions and NSW Country took out the 15 Years.

Capital Football topped Group B in the 13 Years, with Northern NSW finishing first in the 15 Years Group B.

The Northern NSW team kept its winning streak alive this afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Capital Football which saw the squad top the table and become Group B Winners.

Two first half goals to Northern NSW courtesy of Lucy Kell and Claire Farrington gave the side confidence until Capital's Sarah Morgan pulled one back just prior to the halftime whistle.

Renee Pountney scored the winning goal on 43 minutes to extend her side's lead to two goals and clinch the victory to ensure Northern NSW ended the week undefeated (with exception of the group crossover match).

The Northern NSW 13 Years girls were unlucky to concede defeat on the final day of action.

Up against NSW Metro, Northern held their opposition out for the majority of the first half until the 23rd minute when Lauren Pennell scored for Metro.

Northern's Lucy Young was quick to respond minutes later to equalise the score leading into half time.

Metro was on the front foot in the second half with a brace from Isabella Volkanovski giving her side the lead and subsequent victory.
