We're number one
COFFS Harbour Racing Club has been recognised at the industry’s major presentation dinner as the best regional club in NSW.
Presented at the annual Racing NSW Country Awards for Excellence at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Friday, CEO Russ Atkinson was more than pleased to accept the award on behalf of the club which won ahead of fellow finalists Albury, Murrumbidgee and Scone.
“We were up against three other finalists that are some of the leading regional clubs in the State,” Atkinson said.
“One of the important achievements for Coffs Harbour Racing Club this last financial year was increasing our functions business by 30 per cent.
“At a time when all businesses are doing it hard globally this was an outstanding effort by our club staff.”
The prestigious award is presented to the regional race club that showed the best overall progress compared to the previous year with the criteria of all facets of the business including sponsorship, attendances, local community involvement, coordination with other local events, quality of on-course and off-course presentation, quality of customer experience and club trading performance.
Atkinson believes another factor that swayed the judges’ final decision Coffs Harbour’s way was the manner in which the course was presented throughout a year when the weather presented a problem.
“At the same time our ground staff works tirelessly to present our property and the race track proper superbly all year round,” he said.
“Given the unpredictable weather conditions over the last year they are to be commended on their excellent presentation of our facilities.”
Those facilities will once again be on display this Friday when Coffs Harbour Racing Club hosts another twilight TAB race meeting from 2.18-6.40pm.
