Eateries among the cleanest

COFFS Coast food outlets are among some of the cleanest in the State, according to the latest NSW Food Authority reports.

A comprehensive report detailing the amount of inspections, fines and prosecutions in each Local Government Area has outed which councils are doing their bit to keep food standards high – and Coffs Harbour was among the best.

“The Coffs Harbour City Council only issued one improvement notice and no penalty notices,” a spokesperson for the NSW Food Authority said.

More than 300 inspections were carried out in the LGA during the six month period from December 2008 to June this year.

“No penalty notices were issued and there were no prosecutions – that’s tracking pretty well in the scheme of things. The Coffs Harbour City Council is also a very active council.”

In the Nambucca Shire, 60 inspections were carried out, one complaint was received and investigated and just one improvement notice was issued.

There were no complaints received in the Bellingen Shire, however 17 improvement notices were issued from just 34 inspections.

The report by the NSW Government will now be an annual event and aims to give consumers the best information possible.
