Wed after whale of a time, couple repeats first date
TWO months after Janette and Tim Irwin started chatting through a dating website, the two decided they wanted to meet.
There was only one problem: Tim lived in Gladstone and Janette was on the Sunshine Coast, so they decided to meet halfway at Hervey Bay and use the opportunity to go whale watching.
That was three years ago.
The couple were married on July 25, but the anniversary of their first date remains special to them.
To celebrate the anniversary of their first official date they decided to return to the place that started it all, on board Blue Dolphin Marine Tours.
"It will be almost three years to the day that we had our first official date on the Blue Dolphin," Janette said.
"We had such a great time that we have always wanted to go back and do it again."
Blue Dolphin Marine Tours owner Peter Lynch said he and his wife Jodie - who also met on a whale-watching tour 16 years ago - were excited to see them again.
Janette said whale watching was the perfect way for her and Tim to meet.
"It was something that appealed to us as we both loved the water and boating," she said.
"We chose Blue Dolphin Marine Tours because we liked the luxury of the catamaran and the tour seemed more personal."
Janette fondly remembers their first date, saying it went off without a hitch.
The Irwins now live in Maroochydore.
