Weather makes Woolgoolga wait for fresh food people
THERE were hopes Woolgoolga's Woolworths may be open for the Christmas rush but wet weather means residents may be waiting a little longer than expected.
Construction is moving along on the project but a spokeswoman for the supermarket giant said weather delays had pushed back the opening.
"With construction on site subject to significant wet weather delays, we expect to open our new store early in the second quarter of this year," the spokeswoman said.
"Woolworths is looking forward to completing our new Woolgoolga shopping centre and to providing local customers with a modern supermarket featuring a great range of fresh food and grocery items at every day low prices."
The opening of the supermarket is not without controversy.
The construction has only begun after years of public debate and rallying from local business owners to ensure the establishment of the supermarket chain within the town was not detrimental to local business.
It is expected to create up to 100 jobs locally.
