A NEW South Wales highway patrol officer has been captured on dashcam pointing a gun at a driver's face - after he pulled him over for a drink driving test.

The video was tendered in evidence in the ACT Magistrate's Court on Friday where special magistrate Margaret Hunter, said it was unnecessary for the officer to have directed the gun at the man's face.

The motorist, 32, beat the drink-driving charge involved in the incident. NSW police told Fairfax they are reviewing the case.
