Warnings of possible large hailstones

UPDATE: The Bureau of Meterology has updated its severe thunderstorm warning for the Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast and Northern Tablelands Forecast Districts.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours.

Locations which may be affected include Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree and Armidale. 

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Hunter and North West Slopes and Plains districts and the warning for these districts is cancelled.

EARLIER: THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for a severe thunderstorm this afternoon likely to produce large hailstones and damaging winds.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should move cars under cover or away from trees and secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.

Locations which may be affected include Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Lismore, Port Macquarie, Taree, Armidale, Tamworth and Moree.

The severe thunderstorm warning is in effect over the next several hours. An update to the warning is due to be issued by 5.10 pm.
