No sign of Mr Miyagi as would-be Karate Kid sparks panic

It wasn't the machete-wielding maniac residents feared, but rather a would-be Karate Kid, after police were called to reports of a man armed with a machete running through a Mooloolaba street tonight.

Several police cars raced to the scene after calls from concerned residents, but luckily, there was no weapon-wielding psychopath or deranged Daniel-san greeting responding officers.

A police media spokesman confirmed officers had simply found a person fine-tuning their martial arts routines in the front yard of a Torumbee Dr, Mooloolaba home at about 7.20pm, which had sparked the calls from worried residents.

Cruising down Torumbee Dr it was evident all had returned to normal this evening, as the police vehicles slowly exited the street.

Only a roving, neighbourhood cat looked the least bit curious as to what had caused the commotion.

Police were unable to confirm what style of martial art was being honed, or whether they had encountered the next Bruce Lee, but no one could doubt the commitment to the cause, the budding black belt working on their form at 7pm on a chilly Winter night.
