Walking group is on the move and gaining momentum

COLD winter temperatures chilling the bones of residents in the South Burnett haven't managed to stop a determined walking group from getting together every week.

Since the beginning of the year, the Murgon Walk and Talk group has grown substantially and its members don't intend on slowing down any time soon.

The group now gathers four times a week, and at least 10 participants take part in each session.

Members walk and talk it out on one of their 10 routes mapped out around Murgon, including on parts of the South Burnett Rail Trail.

The group, run by Murgon's Graham House Community Centre, generally walks for 30-40 minutes and averages three kilometres per session.

Community Access development co-ordinator Lauren Ryan said last week, 20 walkers braved one of the coldest days to hit Murgon this year.

Due to its popularity, Graham House is about to add a new fitness event to its program offering, targeted at families.

"We are about to start a new walking group for parents and their children,” Ms Ryan said.

"We are hoping that when parents pick up their kids up from school 3.30pm, they can join in on the walk and bring their scooters and bikes along as well to ride along the path in Murgon.”

Ms Ryan said walkers enjoyed the physical benefits of being active while socialising with other members in the group.
