Walk to honour well-loved local

A PROPOSAL to rename a section of the Solitary Islands Coastal Walk in honour of the memory of well-known local environmental campaigner Dee Wallace has been put forward by Coffs Harbour City Council.

In addition, an annual award in her name is to be established and formally launched on World Environment Day - June 5, 2009.

Council supported the suggestion put forward by the National Parks and Wildlife Service that the section of the Coastal Walk from Lighthouse Crescent over Dammerels Head be upgraded and renamed.

The first award will be made on World Environment Day 2010. Nominees for the award must be a resident of the Coffs Harbour Local Government Area, and have made a contribution to the environment.

To formalise the renaming proposal, a submission is to be made to the Draft Moonee Nature Reserve Plan of Management.
