Volunteers celebrate their week

ANNETTE Ryan and Margaret Quinn are just two of the many volunteers saving Australia more than $70- billion a year.

Celebrating National Volunteer Week, Mrs Ryan and Mrs Quinn help out on Mondays at St Augustine's Aged Care with Mrs Quinn playing the organ and leading a sing-a-long, while Mrs Ryan helps with communion.

Mrs Ryan volunteers because 'I love the oldies'.

“They're a real wealth of experience,” she said.

Mrs Quinn has been volunteering in Coffs Harbour's nursing homes since 1976 and she has been helping at St Augustine's for the past 15 years.

“We can make them laugh, and that's a real blessing,” Mrs Quinn said.

Activities co-ordinator Peter Baldwin said that there were 20 to 30 volunteers at St Augustine's.

“We're really indebted to them,” he said.
