Vive La France! French film festival launching
ORGANISERS of the Screenwave International Film Festival (SWIFF) are launching a new locally curated film festival celebrating French language, films and culture.
Vive La France! French Film Festival will screen a selection of 12 feature films from revolutionary classics to contemporary innovations for local and visiting audiences at the Jetty Memorial Theatre.
Considered the birthplace of film, France is the third largest film market in the world, supported by a deep-seeded integration of culture into the national mindset. France’s film culture is one of the most celebrated in the world, largely propelled by being home to the most prestigious film festival – the Cannes Film Festival.
“Arts and culture have the power to define a region with character, to challenge and innovate across industries and technology, and provide flow-on benefits to the local business community,” said SWIFF director, David Horsley.
The Festival opens with the screening of Blind Date (Un Peu, Beaucoup, Aveuglèment) - a laugh-out-loud audience award-winner about an inventor and a musician who find it unbearable to coexist, living in adjacent apartments sharing a very thin wall.
The festival is an immersive French experience, complete with introductory Fun and French speaking with U3A, and home-made cheeses.
The Festival runs September 1 to 4. More info at www.swiff.com.au. Full program will be released July 21.
