Second ever: Kohli surpasses greats of the game

VIRAT Kohli has become just the second player in history to simultaneously sit above the 900-point mark in both Tests and one-day internationals on the International Cricket Council's batting rankings.

Kohli's ODI rating has climbed to a career-high 909 points after his blockbuster series against South Africa (558 runs at 186.00). The world's No.1 50-over batsman picked up 33 points for the three-century campaign.

The Indian skipper has opened up a 65-point gap on second-placed AB de Villiers (844), who is the only other man to have ever had an ICC rating above 900 concurrently in Tests and ODIs.

Kohli sits second on the Test batting rankings on 912 points, 35 behind Australian captain Steve Smith (947).

Viv Richards, Brian Lara and Hashim Amla are the only other men to have crossed the 900-mark in both Tests and one-dayers.

David Warner remains the best ranked Australian batsman, sitting third on 823 points. Aaron Finch (14th) and Steve Smith (17th) are the only other Australians in the top 20 and Pakistan's Babar Azam (813) and England's Joe Root (808) wrap up the top five

Kohli's rating of 909 is the seventh highest in history and the best since Dean Jones' peak of 918 in 1991. The next best rating achieved by an Indian is Sachin Tendulkar's 887 in 1998.

Kohli is the 12th batsman to ever go past 900 points in ODI cricket.
