Violence breaks out in Juba leaving 150 rival fighters dead

VIOLENCE has broken out in the South Sudan capital, Juba, reportedly leaving more than 150 fighters from rival forces dead around the presidential palace.

The Sudan Tribune reported gunfire broke out at the palace on Friday afternoon (local time) as President Salva Kiir and vice-president and former rebel leader Riek Machar were meeting to discuss a previous clash where five government soldiers were killed.

The Tribune said it was unclear what provoked Friday's gunfire, but Reuters reported it initially involved each man's bodyguards and quickly escalated.
