THIS is the excruciating moment a woman allegedly destroys hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of art after she caused an exhibit to fall like dominoes while she was taking a selfie.

The "accident" is believed to have happened at The 14th Factory in Los Angeles at Simon Birch's art installation - but was all quite as it seemed?

According to the person who uploaded the video to Live Leak, the woman crouched down to pose in front of a pillar which was holding a sculpture but accidentally leans on it, the The Sun reports.

Footage shows the pillars all falling down like dominoes.

The woman in question then slowly gets up from the floor as others take in what has happened.

She then makes a desperate attempt to pick up the pillar she knocked over before the video cuts out.

According to the person who uploaded the video, who claims to be a "mate" of the artists, around $US200,000 ($AU250,000) worth of art was "destroyed" as a result.

However some have commented on the video, saying they believe the whole thing might have been staged or a "smart set-up".

Others commented on their scepticism over whether the of damage was really done or not.

In June, we reported the cringe-worthy moment a girlfriend "rejected" her boyfriend's elaborated baseball game proposal.

Onlookers claim to have captured the embarrassing scene at a South Carolina match - but was all quite as it seemed?

Four pals of the bloke performed an uncoordinated jig on the field as Bruno Mars's song Marry You played out.

They later hoisted signs into the air asking the woman to marry her beau at Columbia's Fireflies stadium.

The woman can be seen desperately picking up the collapsed pillar.

The camera then panned to the T-shirt-wearing proposer who got down on one knee and "popped the question".

But to his dismay the woman shook her head, grabbed her bag and stormed out.

It is not yet known if the video was an elaborate hoax.

Most were not taken in by the clip, with one Instagram user saying: "The proposal was fake. It was a prank."
