Variety bus boosts school
JANELLE Bullen is ready to roll and take her students into a new world of possibilities.
The assistant principal special education at Coffs Harbour Public School, Ms Bullen yesterday officially took delivery of a new 14-seater bus, courtesy of Variety - the Children's Charity, at an assembly of students, staff and parents.
The Variety Sunshine Coach will provide hassle-free transport for special-support children to access the wider community.
It will also take the pressure off parents to act as taxis.
"Our special-support students will have easier access to activities like hydrotherapy appointments, kids gym and horse riding as well as integration into mainstream school excursions," Ms Bullen said.
Coffs Harbour Public School has 60 special support students in its 400 students, and all were involved in raising money for the coach.
"We fundraised $40,000 in just over a year thanks to numerous school events and $10,000 from Tubby's White Whales, $5000 from Nortec, $2500 from Day Break Rotary and other support from local Lions and Rotary Clubs," Ms Bullen said.
She said Variety made up the difference, bringing to 1275 coaches the charity has funded nationally.
"We can't think Variety enough. The organisation is unbelievably supportive and amazing and we are so grateful for their support," she said.
