Ute torn apart, passengers safe

TWO men managed to crawl out of this wreck on the Pacific Highway near the Coffs Harbour Showgrounds early yesterday.

The southbound ute was towing a trailer laden with fencing equipment, an air compressor, a fuel tank and tools when it hurtled off the road just after 4.30am.

The vehicle mounted the gutter, hit a power pole and overturned, hurling its load across the road.

Emergency crews arrived to discover the injured occupants had scrambled clear. One of them remained in a stable condition in hospital yesterday while the other was discharged.

The accident blocked the highway for an hour.
