Urunga sculptor's exhibition in 2015 to become arts drawcard

SCULPTORS and arts groups have just a few days left to register for ARTURUNGA Sculpture In The Park.

The exciting new event will be held on Sunday, January 18, with creations displayed in the riverside park in Morgo Street.

Sculptors young and old, professional and novice, are invited to participate by displaying their creations on that one day for all the public to enjoy.

Coordinator David Southgate said entertainment and food will accompany the event.

"While it is seen as a chance for artists to have an audience and to show their work, it is also a chance to introduce ideas of public art into the community," he said.

"Sculpture has become a popular way for towns and their communities to enhance the public spaces and add to the aesthetic and individuality of a place.

"The Chamber of Commerce has taken the idea of a sculpture exhibition on board, as something that is worth developing for Urunga as a regular attraction for the town's community and its visitors during the summer holidays."

As a theme to add interest, sculptors have been asked to include concepts of sustainability and recycling in their works of art with the chance of a prize for the lucky winners.

Judging the sculptures will be Dr Leigh Summers from the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery and Emeritus Professor of Visual Arts, Elizabeth Ashburn OAM.

The closing date for any interested individuals or groups wishing to show their sculpturing skills and register to be part of this fun-filled event is Saturday, November 1.
