Man claims $330k Keno win

A SEACHANGE to Urunga has made a huge difference to the life of a Sydney retiree who won a cool $330,000 last week playing Keno at the Urunga Bowling Club.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he was surprised and delighted when he watched nine out of nine of his numbers come up, and that it would make his retirement at the seaside town all the sweeter.

“I guess I was surprised but, with these things, you play in the hope that you might win one day,” he said.

“Now that I have, I’ll put it in the bank straight away.”

The man, who has family in the area and is in the process of relocating permanently from Sydney has been visiting the Urunga Bowls Club for many years.

“I dropped in for a quick play of the Keno as I usually do – it was nothing out of the ordinary,” he said.

The nine winning numbers were quite unusual – 67, 68, 69, 70, 76, 77, 78, 79 and 80. The winning game cost the man just $1.

Urunga Bowling Club chief executive Thane Duncan said the club was extremely excited about the jackpot and were even happier to see it go to a regular club member and Keno player.

“It’s a cliché to say this but it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy,” Thane said.

“He is one of our backbone regulars, so we’re very happy for him,” he said.
