Urunga Boardwalk opening today

THE opening of the final 400-metre stage of the Urunga Boardwalk is on today and everyone is invited.

This latest extension means locals and visitors now have close to one kilometre of walkway extending from the town to the Pacific Ocean.

The entire distance is wheelchair accessible and culminates in a viewing platform with enough space for chairs to turn around.

The project provides safe access to Urunga Beach, while protecting the fragile wetland ecosystems, in particular the dunes and coastal vegetation. Stunning views surround the boardwalk, which now includes interpretative signage along the entire route.

The official opening will take place from 10am hosted by Bellingen Shire Council and the NSW Land and Property Management Authority, followed by a day of family fun including a sausage sizzle, free jumping castle and music.

The upgrading of the Morgo Street Reserve will also be on display. New pathways, a barbecue area and children’s playground have greatly added to the family-friendly atmosphere at the reserve.
