Yamba Surf Club up in smoke

JUST after noon fire truck sirens squealed across Yamba as plumes of black smoke billowed from the boat shed at the North Coast’s oldest surf club.

Set to hold a round of the North Coast Boat series this weekend, Yamba Surf Club, formed in 1908 and one of the nations oldest, is now reeling from a damage bill set to top $100,000.

Three inflatable rescue boats, their motors and patrol gear was destroyed in the blaze that was fortunately contained quickly by a rapid response from three fire brigades.
