‘Unlucky’ traveller tries luck with drugs found on road

A YOUNG partygoer thought it was “his lucky day” when he found a bag of cocaine on a road until he was busted using it in a nightclub bathroom.

James Stuart Cleave, 21, was led out of The Post Office Bar and Beer Garden by an employee on September 8 with a small amount of white powder on his phone.

Cleave, from NSW, told police he found a bag of cocaine on the road outside the bar and decided to try his luck.

The carpet installer, who had no criminal history and was on a road trip, pleaded guilty via phone at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday to possessing a dangerous drug.

Magistrate Maxine Baldwin said he should buy a lottery ticket next time he felt lucky.

“You thought it was your lucky day but it was your unlucky day … stupid,” she said.

Cleave was fined $350 with no conviction recorded.
