Uni fees may rise

COFFS Coast university students could be faced with paying students fees after legislation was introduced by the Federal Government into Parliament this week.

The legislation, if passed, will allow universities to charge students up to $250 a year to help fund services like child care. Southern Cross University's Student Association in Coffs Harbour has declined to comment until the result of the legislation is known.

Youth Minister Kate Ellis said the money would be used to improve vital student services.
