Coffs under 14s through to final

COFFS Harbour's representative under 14 cricket team secured a place in the interdistrict final with a good win over competition leaders Lower Clarence at Coffs Harbour Leisure Park No.2 on Sunday.

The visitors took first use of the wicket but struggled to post a competitive total.

John Lovett (1/11 off 7 overs) made the initial breakthrough but it was the spin bowlers who applied enormous pressure in the middle 17 over session.

Spin twins Kurt Atkinson (2/14 off 10 overs) and Trent Dierick (1/7 off 9 overs) mesmerised the Lower Clarence batsmen as the visitors lost 3 wickets for just 19 runs.

In the final session, Dean Slattery (pictured right) was again impressive in snaring 4/22 off his 9 overs with Lower Clarence reaching 8 for 100 in their allotted 50 overs.

When it was Coffs Harbour's turn at the crease, the top order took control of the match. A 51 run opening partnership between Kurt Atkinson (29) and Jacob Corlis (24) extinguished any hopes of victory the visitors may have had.

Dean Slattery (18) completed a fine double as Coffs Harbour cruised to a five wicket win.

The victory puts Coffs equal first with Lower Clarence after six matches.

Run quotients will determine which of these teams host the final in two weekend's time.
