Uber hits back at Katter plan for cops to target drivers

UBER has fired back against the Katter's Australian Party's attempt to have its drivers lose demerit points if Queensland Police pull them over.

The controversial ride-sharing company has called on its customers to email dozens of Queensland MPs and urge them to vote against the KAP bill.

KAP Queensland state leader Robbie Katter on Monday said his parliamentary colleagues would "see the face of anger" if the bill was not supported.

The proposal would cause motorists to lose demerit points as well as being fined if caught driving a ride-sharing operation.

When Uber users in Queensland opened their app on Wednesday morning a notification told them "The Katter Party plans to end ridesharing".

The note included a link to send a form email to Palaszczuk government and Opposition MPs urging them to not support the bill.

"I do not support the Katter Australia Party's attempt to punish ridesharing drivers," the email template for Uber customers said.

"I choose ridesharing in Queensland as a safe, reliable and affordable way to get around my city and I expect my Premier to support my choices.

"I urge you to vote NO to Katter's Australia Party's attempt to take Queensland backwards."

Mr Katter on Tuesday said he hoped the major parties would support his call to "enforce the laws".

He said a separate review was being undertaken into the legality of Uber.

Mr Katter said the KAP did not have a philosophical opposition to Uber and would "accept the umpire's decision" on the service's legality.

The bill is set to be voted on at parliament on Wednesday.
