U-turn on Warrego Hwy is 'accident waiting to happen'
ROAD safety is one of the government policies and they are using this to construct so-called safety measures on the Warrego Highway near the Helidon Spa, in the way of so-called safer u-turns.
One of these u-turns is of particular interest as it is only 100 metres or so from the crest of the road making it impossible to see what is coming towards the new u-turn for those vehicles that need to cross over two lanes of traffic.
An accident waiting to happen, if I ever saw one. But I am not a road engineer, so what do I know.
Common sense would be able to recognise the flaw with this new intersection.
What was so wrong with the crossroads at the Helidon Spa where vehicle visibility was so much better? The public still had to cross over the same number of lanes to traverse this intersection but at least they could see any on coming vehicles from a greater distance away.
Once there is an accident, will they revert back to the old crossroads spending even more money on something that didn't need changing in the first place.
