Two dead, two injured in head-on

A MARRIED couple has been killed and two teenagers injured in a head-on smash between two cars on the Pacific Highway between Grafton and Ballina in northern NSW.

The two Holden Commodores, one driven by a 17-year-old P-plater, smashed into each other at Tabbimoble, 12km south of New Italy, yesterday morning, police said. A husband and wife, both aged in their 60s, died at the scene.

The P-plater, and a male passenger also aged 17, were taken to Lismore Base Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway was closed for four hours while crash investigation unit officers examined the site, but reopened before noon.

Police took the cars for mechanical examination. Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
